Heart Breaking News!

Friday 11th July 2008 poor little lucky cat lost his life, he had been suffering with more illness and it was with great sadness that he was put to sleep. Everybody who has ever met him will be so sad as despite his short little life he gave so much joy to so many, and in return was loved deeply by everybody who's path he crossed.

The only comfort that can come from this is that he is suffering no more and at least he died surrounded by loved ones instead of alone in the gutter at six weeks old. For my part in this, I am glad that we were able to at least help give him a chance. He will be sorely missed.

I am going to keep this website going in the hope that one day we can start to see it prosper with donations to help prevent this sort of thing happening to other cats like little Lucky. He will always be a part of my life that I will never forget and I know that I am not alone in that.

We Visited Lucky Cat In Spain!

Lucky Cat when we saw him in SpainWe went to Spain the first week in May and arranged to see him. He looks so well now although he still has his wheeze which I suspect will stay with him forever. He was happy and playful and we were able to give him lots of cuddles, he is loving his new home immensely and his new family. Every family member means something different to him, he is very lucky indeed.

Unlike last September he no longer has to worry about where he will stay or what he will eat because he has it all now.

Whilst in Spain we went to visit Janet and Alan at the Feline Association Board, they own the luxury cattery where lucky spent his first few weeks after we found him. A more fantastic couple you will not find, so if you are looking for somewhere to board your cat in the Spanish Costa Blanca take a look at what they have to offer. I have set up a website for them so take a look by clicking here.

Thank you to all for your support. Whether you visit the shops advertised on the site or make a donation or just visit, we thank you. Hopefully in time we will be able to bring a happy story to many other cats like Lucky.

Lucky Cat Is Happy And Loved!

Lucky Cat enjoying his new homeLucky Cat is loving his new home with our lovely vet and his new family, even their dog Odie loves him and is enjoying his company. I will not be updating the blog as frequently as before but will give occasional news and photos as we still ask about his progress.

We will also be including some photos every now and again so that you can see what a handsome boy he is becoming, he is about eight months old now and still as handsome.

Lucky Cat enjoying a restIt seems Lucky is enjoying the warm weather more than the cold (like most of us) so he is definately better off in Spain. He still is having some acupuncture but he is much better than he was. Whilst we suspect that he will always have some health issues, at least now he has the prospect of a lovely life ahead of him, a stark difference to his prospects last September!

Remember Lucky Cat's story if you ever come across what looks like a hopeless and lost cause because you may just be able to save another little life, and take it from me as an animal lover that is a very nice feeling indeed.

In recognition of Lucky Cat, he now not only has his very own site, but also has his very own search page. So in addition to using the Lucky Cat Search from this site you can go directly to www.LuckyCatSearch.com. Thanks for taking the time to read Lucky's blog and keep watching!

Lucky Cat Is Rescued!

This is happy news indeed. Lucky Cat is still suffering on and off with problems but whilst we know he may always have some sickness he now has a secure future. The likelyhood of him travelling to the UK was looking slim, not necessarily because of his passport, but because we were worried about him having to travel so far if he was asthmatic. We spoke to our lovely vet who has fallen in love with him and will be more than happy to keep him with her and her family as their pet. This is fantastic news, because Lucky Cat likes his home with her and could not be with a better person if he is going to need regular treatments.

We cannot say we are not a little sad at the prospect of him not coming to live with us, but our sole intention with Lucky has always been to get him well and to give him a home where he will be loved and cared for. His health is still a work in progress but as for the rest, well he has that now.

We have been asked by people if we are sorry that we have had to spend a lot of money on him when we won't even be keeping him, the answer is clear to me; he was worth it! It is not in our nature to ignore such an animal as Lucky, he needed somebody to notice him and love and care for him; we just happened to be there when he called! He now has many new friends, as have we, and he has touched many lives, most of all ours. His prospects are not certain but one thing is, had it not been for us seeing him on our anniversary last year he would have been dead.

So what of our intentions now? Well, I would like to see the Lucky Cat website get well known over the coming years. We have had little success as yet but I would like to start getting donations in their droves over the coming years in order to help other animals in Spain or other countries either by setting up a rescue fund or donating it to existing sancturies and foundations.

Thank you for supporting the Help Lucky Cat Site and, watch this space!

A Slight Turn For The Worse

Just when all seemed to be going great Lucky Cat has had a slight turn for the worse, he seems to have got his mucus back, we were hoping for him to be better each day, but he gets good days and bad days. We are a little concerned about payment for his ongoing treatment so if anybody has any ideas of how to promote this website more (for free) then please contact us ;-).

On a positive note, he has been to the country for a visit and enjoyed himself, and is still getting first class treatment from our fabulous vet.

On The Way At Last

Lucky Cat is at last on the way to getting his passport, he is not out of the woods yet as he still has a small noise in his nose that cannot at the moment be shifted. But he is running around and chasing toys, eating better and has now had his first Rabies jab. The jab is a necessary part of getting his passport.

I still never stop being amazed at how fantastic our vet is; by looking after Lucky Cat in her home for us she has given him such a good quality of life instead of him having to be in the small accommodation that is offered by a veterinary hospital.

I often think to myself how it shows the importance of doing just one thing to help somebody or something. If we had just ignored him Lucky Cat would have just died alone, unknown and unloved. Now, Lucky is loved by, and has touched the lives of, so many people and we have made some fantastic new friends whose kindness will stay with us forever.

And it is not just new friends, one of our close friends (Eve you know who you are) looks out for little Lucky by using the Lucky Cat Search page and buying from the companies listed in the banner adverts on the site. Also we get donations from her for Lucky cat; and Eve, I know Lucky Cat would thank you as much as we do for his "Christmas Present".

Oh well, that is it for now, I will try to keep this updated with any new information on a weekly basis at least so please come back. As soon as I have any new photos i will post those too. Thanks to all for taking the time to look around the site and an even bigger thanks to those who are supporting Lucky cat in one way or another.

All that is left is to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2008 and to hope for good luck for Lucky Cat and for all of you (and us)!

Still Improving, But A Way To Go!

Lucky Cat has gained bundles of friends, not just here in the UK from people we know, but also in Spain. The vet is continuing to look after him at home so that he doesn't have to go into the hospital, and he is so lovely that everybody just falls in love with him. He visits with the family of the Vet and on occasion sneaks in to go to sleep with her dog, how is that for friendly! He is getting better daily but still has a long way to go. Hopefully we will be able to at least start his passport soon so that we can get him on to coming home with us.

What A Lucky Cat Indeed!

I spoke with the vet again this evening, I cannot emphasise enough just how fantastic they are. Lucky is still on the road to recovery (slowly), they don't like to leave him in the hospital longer than necessary so they take it in turns taking him home with them. They have started him on a course of homeopathy, and he has even had acupuncture to help him. He is sneeezing more now, so hopefully it will help clear his sinuses.

All we can do is pray for his speedy recovery, and if there are any media people out there who want to help, please get in touch. I am sure that this would make a heart warming Christmas story.

Lucky Cat Continues To Gain New Friends

We were very sad to leave little Lucky at the vet's and so were pleased when our wonderful friend Eve, phoned us from Spain to tell us how he was as she had been to the vet herself, he was purring and being looked after well.

Since then I have emailed the vet some photos, and I have had a email back to say that she has taken Lucky home with her and her family for a few days and is treating him at home so that he has more space and can run around, what a wonderful vet she is.

Lucky has been winning friends and is quite friendly with her dog, who seems to think that the medications are special treatment! We feel better knowing that little Lucky Cat is getting out to run around as it makes him happy.

All this, when you consider that just over 2 weeks ago he had stopped eating again, and had lost 600 grammes; he also had two abscesses, one on his neck and one on his side; and they thought that he may not make it as he was so poorly. She now thinks that he will as he has shown very good recovery but still has a long way to go before he has a clean bill of health and can come to his new home.

A Holiday For Us And Lucky Cat

Lucky Cat with his three times a day nebuliser We went to see Lucky Cat in Spain for a few days, when we got to the vet she brought little Lucky Cat out and he looked very sad for being in hospital. He was very good though and the vet asked if we would like to take him to our holiday apartment for a few days and administer his treatment to give him a bit of a holiday; we jumped at the chance!

So much medication for him, three times a day about six different treatments, yet like before he was so good. His three most hated were ten to fifteen minutes on a nebuliser with antibiotics; saline wash up each nostril; and a horrible sticky lemony smelling liquid he had to have by mouth (he hated this the most and who could blame him) to help get rid of his mucus.

He wheezed a lot, so we bought him a humidifier to ensure that the air was moist for him. We had just loads of cuddles with him, we love him so much. We played with him and gave him attention for as long as we could, the vet was fantastic and let us take him back on the Sunday 25th (yesterday). I have to admit it was heart wrenching, we just want him to get better quickly and get home with us.

I spoke to the vet today, she said that he isn't looking too stressed out yet, and has settled back in Ok. We hate not being able to tell him he will be OK and why we are having to do these things to him but unfortunately neither of us are related to Doctor Doolitle!

Slight Improvements Daily

I spoke to the Vet and it would seem that there are slight improvements daily but there seems a point where Lucky just is getting stuck at and the mucus is staying firmly in his little nose, causing him difficulty with breathing. He is eating on his own now at least, but still needs hospitalisation! The bills are mounting and so any help you could give would be fantastic. Why not take a look at our merchandise store or do some shopping from the support Lucky Cat page. Clicking on any of the banners on this page will take you to the shop e.g. Woolworths with our link and Help Lucky Cat will get a small commission from the supplier (the products will cost the same to you, they pay out of their profit). Sorry for the plea but I was always told "if you don't ask you don't get!" Thanks in advance, and I will keep you informed of all progress.

A Bit Better But Not Out Of The Woods Yet!

I spoke to the vet a couple of days ago and he had eaten by himself and was looking a little brighter, she said that they all cheered when he had eaten by himself, they have grown quite fond of him. I phoned again today and he is better still, he is eating on his own but they are also giving him some force fed to build up his weight and strength. The vet was talking to Lucky whilst she was on the phone to me, she is sweet. The receptionists are getting to know me just by voice now so they don't need to ask who it is or who I am calling for anymore.

We are going for a few days soon, so we will have first hand knowledge of how he is and be able to give him a cuddle; we can't wait!

Just A Little Better

I phoned the vet Friday and was told that Lucky was marginally better i.e. his breathing had improved a fraction. He was still being force fed and also was still on the mask to nebulise but a little better is still better by my book, and the old adage always says it gets worse before it gets better!

The vet asked me if we would mind if either of the two vets took little Lucky home with them for a few days to continue his treatment at home but so he got a break from the hospital, just how sweet is that! Thanks for the people who are helping. We have had a few donations and people are using the Lucky Cat Search as well which is good.

Also I did some work on a press release as I want to get into the newspapers to raise awareness, and a marketing professional offered her services pro bono to look over what I had done to make sure it was correct and to improve where necessary, yet another act of kindness, so thanks for that too.

If anybody has friends in the media that would like to do a story on Lucky Cat and the mad people who are spending all their money trying to save him then feel free to pass our details on, I am sure that it would make a great Christmas good will story. We hope that if we can get the Lucky Cat Site off with a bang that all excess donations can be used to help other animals abroad that are neglected or abandoned.

Lucky Cat with cattitude! I will be speaking to the vet later in the week, probably tomorrow, to find out how Lucky Cat is doing as I know he can get better. All the horrible stuff he has had to endure will not be for nothing!

Also here is a little photograph for you to look at, as with all the Lucky pictures on the site, click them for a bigger picture, I had to include this here just to remind everyone about how special he is, here you can see him poking his tongue out at the sign round the pool where it says no pets. He ignored the sign and sunbathed just below it, he really does have "Cattitude!"

Very Poorly Still

Just a quick update on little Lucky Cat, he has been very poorly the last couple of days, he has not been eating, and the vet has had to force feed him just a little food. He is marginally better today, and he picked at a little food himself. This is a good thing, because marginally better is still better. We know he will continue to improve, he just needs a little more of his namesake.

So even if you cannot help with a donation perhaps you would think some positive thoughts about his recovery because the more positive thoughts there are about him flying around the more likely I feel that this will be to turn out well.

Here To Stay - For Now!

We know that Lucky will get well, but the poor little chap has to stay in the animal hospital for longer now. The vet thinks that it is in his best interest and is his best chance to get well to keep him in until he is better. They have been fantastic, but we are just concerned for him, after all it isn't nice being stuck in a hospital. Still, the alternative would likely have been death had he been back on the street, so I suppose it is not so bad.

Poor Lucky Is Back In Hospital

Poor old Lucky, he is back in hospital again on the nebuliser. We are praying for him to get better soon, the poor little fella yet again is having trouble breathing due to his congestion. It sounds like he will be having to have some regular injections, I will speak to the vet tomorrow to find out more. We are of course a little concerned about his mounting bills so if you feel that you can donate a little however small it would be appreciated. £1 each from a couple of thousand people would certainly help :-)

We were asked today if we plan to try to continue to raise money if the website is successful, the answer, a resounding yes. If we can get Lucky Cat well and raise funds to help then we will try to raise money to help other animals abroad. This will initially be undertaken by supporting existing animal rescue programmes and centres, still I am getting ahead of myself but it would be great if you could help us get to that point.

Start by adding this site to your social bookmark sites such as StumbleUpon or FaceBook (links on the home page), email all your friends and tell everybody you meet about the site. Our first goal is to get little Lucky well and bring him home.

I Don't Like That A Lot!

Poor old Lucky, he really doesn't seem to like the Vicks a great deal, but he has to endure it for his own good. We hate not being able to just pop in and give him a little cuddle or play with him. He loves company, so getting him home will be so good. Still he is, i am sure, getting better by the day.

On a different note I have added a support us page where any products bought will give us a small commission, the commission is from the suppliers profit, not your purchase price. Also I have added a merchandise store for t-shirts, mugs etc :-)

Still Suffering!

Lucky Cat went to the vets today, and more medication is needed, he is sounding better, but as we thought, there is a way to go as yet. He is maintaining a healthy weight but, in addition to his medication, he now has to spend an hour a day with a bowl of hot water and Vicks Vapour Rub to nebulise him. Well, at least he doesn't have to have it rubbed on he chest!

He has had a few prawns with his medication today and apparently was very happy. That was how we knew he was getting a bit better when we had him in our apartment with us because he loved prawns.

Playing The System!

I spoke to the cattery again today. Lucky is off to the vets again tomorrow for a checkup on how he is doing on his medication. She said currently he is being very good waiting to take his oral medication knowing he will get a treat of some chopped chicken or pilchard after he has had it. She has to wash the tomato sauce off the pilchards first though because he won't eat it otherwise.

She said he still seems much better than he was so it will be interesting to see what the vet says about him tomorrow. As soon as ever I can I will try to get some more photographs of him.

Lucky Seems Much Better

A short while ago I spoke with the cattery who said that Lucky Cat is a lot better, he is still wheezy but nowhere near as bad as he was before the vet hospitalised him. He has lots of medication to take, and is rewarded with some chicken and a little ideal milk. We are going to Spain in a month to see him and are looking forward to it, we want to see his little face again as he is such a little cutie. Also we want to satisfy ourselves first hand as to his progress.

Lucky Is Released

The cattery called us today to say Lucky was coming out, but we needed to sort the bill out with the vet. I phoned the vet who said that it would be fine, we could transfer the money to their account later, but Lucky would still be going back to the cattery. Another bill of €400 but worth it to know he is a bit better.

Lucky Is Hospitalised

I have been phoning the cattery almost every evening to check up on Lucky Cat's progress. Today though he hadn't been eating and his wheezing was worse so they took him to the Vets who hospitalised him to give him round the clock treatment. He had to be medicated and also have treatment in a nebuliser to try to clear his mucus.

We were worried about Lucky Cat and we kept checking with the vet as well as the cattery, I am sure they were all fed up with us although they said it was nice to know we cared enough to call.

Sunday morning I phoned the cattery to see how he was doing, he was settled in fine and had been playing with a ball that we had got him. It was nice to hear that he was eating well, but he was still wheezy. He had to go to the vet again on Tuesday for a check up.

Bye Bye Spain, By Bye Lucky Cat .. For Now!

We drove to the cattery I had Lucky on my lap and my wife was driving. We were both sad about leaving him behind in a cattery, but the long term prospects for Lucky are better, and the alternative would be to return him to the street. We left shortly after settling him in and we drove to the airport for our return home.

Home Tomorrow, We Need To Be Sure

We drove to the cattery and met the owners, they were so nice, and you could see by their own animals that they were kind. We arranged to bring Lucky Cat over in the morning and were already missing him! In the afternoon we went to the bank to withdraw €600 as a down payment for his accommodation, and we spent some time with Lucky. We let him sleep on our bed in the evening (as he loves company).

The Hunt Is On!

Now desperate to house him we spoke to our friends again, she came up with some sanctuary telephone numbers. We had no joy and, as he was still ill, wondered just how lucky we would be. One lady from the sanctuary gave us the number to a cattery, and we phoned them. We arranged to go and see them the next day and they sounded really nice. €7 per day and they would also take him to the vet for us and administer medication.

Teaching Him How To Hunt!

Lucky now now only has to have his antibiotics morning and night, the rest is all good. His little eyes are so bright and his fur is silky. We went out during the day to the Pet shop and bought him some toys, a mouse on a sort of fishing rod, and a rubber octopus, also a scratching mat.

He just loves the mouse, but he is scared of the octopus, aaahhhhh, we played with him a lot in fact we brought him down with us to the pool area as he likes company when outside and played with his mouse by the pool.

Still no luck with his homing so we have decided to see if we can find anyone who can keep him for us (we will pay them) until we can get him a passport to come home with us.

Another Trip To The Vet

We made another trip to the vet to have him checked up, we stopped his appetite stimulant on Saturday as we really felt it was stimulated enough. Lucky Cat sat on my lap on the way as he doesn't seem to mind cars. We had brought a little poo for the vet to test for worms to make sure they had gone.

The vet checked him over and weighed him, he was now 1.45kg, he had gained half his body weight and was looking so good. After testing his poo, the vet decided he needed another worming treatment and so administered one. We had another seven days of antibiotics to try to get rid of his wheeze. Also he told us to stop the kitty food and give him chicken and rice.

We were getting a little worried because still no luck finding him a home, and we cannot put him on the street again.

Looking Much Better

What a beautiful little buy is Lucky Cat, so friendly and much happier, he has a really loud meow and a healthy appetite. He is still wheezing though, he really seems to have bonded with me and he is such a snuggly cat. He has so many similarities to our cat Tom who died the same time last year; I cannot help but wonder about reincarnation, sounds silly I know, but who really knows?

We groom him regularly and carry on his medication etc as normal, hopefully we will get him well before we go. We have been trying to find a home for him, our friends in Spain have been marvelous asking round for us, but no luck so far.

Oops Wrong Floor!

We kept Lucky Cat in throughout the day so he could rest we went out to buy some kitten food and a flea comb to comb out all the flea dirt's. He had surprisingly started looking a little better even after a day, but still a poor little fellow. In the evening we decided to let him out whilst we went out so he could get some fresh air, but when we got back we couldn't find him.

We went to sleep eventually but were worried about him so didn't sleep well, very tired I got up two or three times to see if I could find him as it was blowing a gale. I took the lift back up to our floor, and wondered why my wife wasn't answering the door! I knocked a little harder, no answer, out of desperation I rang the bell and, to my surprise a man came to the door looking shocked and bleary eyed.

"Lo siento" I said "pienso que tengo el apartamento incorecto" then left swiftly hoping he would think I was Spanish. Oops I had got off a floor early!

Poor Little Lucky!

We took Lucky to the vet on Monday evening, he was given frontline for fleas, ear mite treatment, worming, he had his temperature taken and many other examinations. He was so good, he didn't bite hiss or scratch. We had so many treatments to take home to give him daily. Antibiotics twice daily, appetite stimulants and vitamins once a day, ear mite treatments and ear cleaning twice a day and three different types of eye drops three times a day.

We kept him in that night and he was warm and cosy, he had a poo in the corner of our kitchen, and slept in his dirt tray. That was the last time he did that though, from then on he realised pooing was best done in the dirt tray and he slept in a little bed we bought him.

Is The Kitten Alive?

After arriving back from a drive we noticed a kitten curled up by the garage entrance to the apartment block. I got out the car as my wife parked and went to see if he were alive. He looked up at me tiredly, gave a little tiny meow and then just lay his head back down. He was so thin and grubby, he looked like he wouldn't last very long.

Later that day we went out and brought some kitten food he ate a little and then came up to say hello, he was in a real state but still found the strength to rub against my leg and talk to me.
